Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan said that the city government is now in the process of conducting consultative meetings to prepare their next distribution of cash allowance.
The mayor directed Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Head Elinor Jacinto to urge the conduct of the said meetings with the heads and officers of the city's 896 barangays.
According to the mayor, the purpose of the said consultative meetings with the barangays is to organize the upcoming payrolls for the senior citizens' allowance.
The payrolls, she said, will cover the months from September to December 2024.
Each of the senior citizens, numbering 203,000 in all, will be receiving P2,000 each, representing their P500 monthly allowance from the city covering the said final four months of the current year.
"Kami po ay lubos na nag papasalamat sa mga Punong Barangay, Barangay Secretary o kung sino man pong awtorisadong nag-aayos o gumagawa ng updated senior master list ng inyong mga barangay, sapagkat lubhang napakahalaga po ng nasabing aktibidad na ito (We are very grateful to the barangay chiefs, barangay secretaries or whoever is authorized to organize or create the updated senior master list of your barangays, because this activity is very important)," the mayor said.
The provision of the said monthly cash allowance for the senior citizens is part of the city government's social amelioration program (SAP) which was initiated by an ordinance passed by the Manila City Council during the time when Lacuna-Pangan was the presiding officer, a post she concurrently held as then vice mayor of Manila.
The SAP also provides monthly cash allowance to solo parents, persons and minors with disability and students from the two city-run universities, the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and the Universidad de Manila (UdM).
