A P150,000 cash assistance awaits each overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who will return home from Lebanon--even temporarily--as a result of the ongoing violence there.
Thus, said House Deputy Majority Leader ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo, who on Thursday, Oct. 10 shared details of his recent meeting with officials of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
The aspiring senator said that he spoke with OWWA Administrator Arnel Ignacio to keep the leadership of House under Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez abreast with the state of repatriation of Filipinos stuck in the war in Lebanon.
“Base sa briefing na ibinigay sa atin ni Admin Ignacio, may 11,000 pa daw na mga Pinoy ang nasa Lebanon,” said Tulfo, the deputy majority leader for communications in the current 19th Congress.
(Based on the briefing pf Admin Ignacio, there are 11,000 Filipinos in Lebanon.)
The P150,000 cash aid is broken down as P75,000 each from the OWWA and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The money is intended to replace the OFWs' lost salaries as as result of their decision to be repatriated.
Tulfo also assures the public that Congress is closely monitoring the events not only in Lebanon but also in Israel and Iran.
