BCDA accelerates common tower deployment

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has partnered with LBS Digital Infrastructure Corporation (LDIC) to improve internet access in several of its key developments.

Joshua M. Bingcang, BCDA president and chief executive officer, said the partnership aims to accelerate the deployment of common towers in New Clark City, Morong Discovery Park, Camp John Hay, and Bonifacio Global City. 

Bingcan said this will help boost internet connectivity for businesses and residents in these areas.

“Our partnership with LDIC represents a significant step in our goal to ramp up internet connectivity in our developments,” Bingcang said in a statement on Thursday, Oct. 10.

“Through this initiative, we can build the right infrastructure that will advance and propel digitalization of businesses and communities present in our developments,” he added.

LDIC, a local telecommunications tower operator, is owned by investment and trading firm Sojitz Corporation from Japan and New Founderco Holdings Corporation.

Bingcang said the partnership aligns with the government's goal of expanding digital connectivity nationwide. 

LDIC will conduct feasibility studies to determine the financial viability of the project and submit its findings within a year.

Other telecom companies, such as PhilTower Consortium Incorporated, have also expressed interest in partnering with BCDA to improve digital connectivity in its developments.

BCDA's efforts to enhance internet access are in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 9, which focuses on building resilient infrastructure and promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization.
