Signal No. 1 remains raised over parts of Northern Luzon due to 'Julian'

Nine areas in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and  Ilocos Region remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 on Tuesday evening, Oct. 1 due to Super Typhoon “Julian” (international name “Krathon”), based on the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 11 p.m., Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, mainland Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rainfall may persist in Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

PAGASA said Julian, while still packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 230 kph, has started to weaken while traversing the Taiwan Strait.

It is expected to recurve northeastward on Wednesday morning, Oct. 2, re-enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the afternoon or evening, and make landfall over the southwestern coast of Taiwan in the evening or early Thursday morning, Oct. 3.

PAGASA said Julian may exit the PAR by Thursday.
