The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Norte, in an emergency session on Tuesday, October 1, issued Provincial Resolution No. 341-2024 declaring the state of calamity.

Julian caused widespread flooding, destroyed bridges and roads, and disrupted power and communication lines throughout the province.

The Communications and Media Office (CMO) of Ilocos Norte said damage to crops was estimated at more than P85 million and P385,000 to livestock and poultry.

Assessments of infrastructure damage is ongoing.

Two fatalities were reported – one in Batac City and one in Laoag City – and one person was reported missing in Paoay.

Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc urged residents to remain vigilant and heed safety advisories as PAGASA forecast that Julian will re-enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday, October 2.

The provincial government called on the people to cooperate with government directives and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this critical time.

The provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office has launched relief operations in hardest-hit municipalities.
