Pampanga 2nd district Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has debunked rumors that she will seek a return to the Senate in the May 2025 elections.

In a statement Tuesday morning, Oct.1, the former president said: "To clarify, I will not be seeking a Senate seat in the upcoming election, as I have no intention of pursuing that role again."

"I have officially declared my candidacy for a second term as congresswoman of the second district of Pampanga, where I am committed to addressing the needs and priorities of my constituency and the province of Pampanga," Arroyo said.

Arroyo's first taste of national politics was her stint as senator from 1992 to 1995.

In the 1995 elections, she topped the senatorial race with nearly 16 million votes.

Arroyo, 77, served as Philippine president from 2001 to 2010. She is also the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
