Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers says the concerned agencies should looking into the report that self-confessed Chinese spy She Zhijiang had stepped foot inside Malacañang during former president Rodrigo Duterte’s tenure.

Barbers, overall chairman of the House quad-committee (quad-comm), was referring to one of the allegations made in an Al Jazeera documentary about She.

"Let the other agencies do the investigation," the Mindanao lawmaker said. This, as he noted that the quad-comm wasn't in a position to immediately prove or disprove the claim.

Titled "The Curious Case of She Zhijiang", the documentary showed a clip that She allegedly took of Chinese President Xi Jinping while in Malacañang in Manila.

"In 2018, She filmed this video of Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Manila. They were at a state dinner hosted by then-Filipino president Rodrigo Duterte," the narrator said.

Apparently, the offical invitation given to She was for "Mr. Tang Kriangkai"--one of his aliases at that time.

Reacting to the possibility that She was a part of Xi's official delegation, Barbers said: "Mukhang napainan tayo ng mga espiya talaga na dala ng mismong head ng Chinese government."

(Looks like we really took in the trap of spies who were bought by the head of the Chinese government.)

"Whether it has his knowledge or his authority or not, hindi natin maaabot sa ngayon yan (we won't be able to know that as of now)," Barbers said.

The quad-comm has been investigating another alleged Chinese spy in dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, alias Guo Hua Ping.

She, who is now incarcerated in Thailand, gave this personal message to Guo in the documentary: "Guo Hua Ping. China cannot be trusted. The two of us once dedicated our lives to China's Ministry of State Security. Look at that happened to me. If you don't want to be eliminated, you should tell the world the truth."
