Marcos, Widodo meet to strengthen PH-Indonesia bilateral ties

President Marcos will host Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Malacanan on Wednesday, January 10, to discuss the progress in Philippines-Indonesia relations following the successful state visit of Marcos to Indonesia in September 2022—his first foreign trip as president.

Widodo is set to arrive in the country on Tuesday night, Jan. 9 for a three-day visit to the country.

The two leaders are expected to reaffirm their commitment to deepening and expanding the Philippines-Indonesia ties, especially as the two countries will celebrate their 75th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations in November 2024, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a statement.

The Indonesian leader will be given arrival honors and a state banquet will be held for him at the Malacañan Palace.

He is set to leave on Thursday, Jan. 11.

The Philippines and Indonesia, both founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), are close neighbors and partners in a wide range of areas in the political, economic, and people-to-people relations.

Marcos and Widodo last met during the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit held in Tokyo in December 2023.
