A 61-year-old man died in a fire in one of the EMBO (enlisted men’s barrio) barangays, which are now part of Taguig.
According to the Taguig City Fire Station, the fire hit a house on Lirio Street in Barangay Pembo at 12:40 a.m. on Jan. 8. Firefighters raised the first alarm at 12:45 a.m.

The fire station identified the fatality as Mamerto Cordovez Jr., 61.
There were a total of four families or 12 individuals who were affected by the fire, which damaged P525,000 worth of properties.
Authorities said the fire originated from a bedroom but the cause is under investigation as of this writing.
The fire was put under control at 1:08 a.m. and was put out at 1:14 a.m. A total of eight fire trucks and two ambulances responded to the incident.
The Supreme Court issued a decision last year transferring the ownership of 10 barangays in the EMBO areas to Taguig from Makati. These are Cembo, Comembo, Pembo, East Rembo, West Rembo, South Cembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper Southside and Rizal.
