The Manila Police District (MPD) reminded churchgoers of the mandated “single entry-multiple exits” in Quiapo Church for Traslacion 2024.
Col. Arnold Thomas Ibay, MPD chief, said on Monday, Jan. 8, that devotees who wish to get inside the church should pass through the only entrance at Villalobos Street in Quiapo.
Ibay said that all devotees who will go through any other streets to reach the church will end up at Plaza San Juan de Bautista.
Devotees coming from Plaza San Juan de Bautista are not allowed to enter the church because it is the exit for devotees coming from the church.
However, he said devotees are allowed to stay at San Juan de Bautista to listen to the Mass if they want.
Other exits of the church are at Evangelista Street and Carriedo Street.
The MPD chief said that people can also pass from Estero Cegado Street to Palanca Street to reach Villalobos Street.
On Jan. 9, he said three LED screens will be installed at Carriedo Street for people to watch the Mass as only 750 people will be allowed to enter the church due to Covid-19 health risks.
Meanwhile, after vendors around Quiapo were temporarily banned, there are still a few vendors who have returned to sell their products.
Ibay reminded them that they will let them sell, but they will not be allowed to enter Plaza San Juan de Bautista in order not to block the arriving devotees.
He also reminded owners of vehicles who are currently parked on Carriedo Street to remove their cars. They also blocked riders who tried to pass the street.
