PUJ drivers complain as roads close for Traslacion
Some drivers of Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) complained about the road closures in Manila for the Traslacion procession on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Jesi, 56, who has been a jeepney driver for three decades, said more roads were closed for this year’s procession than in 2019 when it was last held.
“Wala talagang kita. Gumising kami ng maaga para makapasada kaya lang sarado lahat. Gustuhin man namin, wala kaming malusutan (I don't really have any income. We woke up early to do our usual route but the roads were closed. Even if we want to, we can't get through the blocked roads),” he said.
Danny, 49, a jeepney driver plying the Baclaran-Monument route said he did not expect several road closures this year.
He said he will just return to his home and pray for a successful procession.
Despite the light rains, thousands of devotees were seen walking to the Quirino Grandstand.

They said they could not get a ride on any public vehicle or even book via transportation applications due to road closures and signal jamming.
They also said that they did not expect rainy weather because it has not been raining in the past few days.
Communication signals were jammed at around 5 a.m., as part of the tight security for the Traslacion.
