ILOILO CITY – A 28-year-old man was killed and 293 individuals were injured by fireworks during the holiday season in Western Visayas.

Dr. Fritzi Ann Suzette Jeroso-Dequito of the Department of Health-6 Health Promotion Unit said in an online press conference that the fatality died from injuries sustained from a homemade firecracker.
DOH-6 Regional Director Adriano Suba-an said Western Visayas ranked fifth in firecracker related-injuries in the region in trems of the number of fatality and injuries monitored from December 21 to January 6.
The province of Negros Occidental had the highest number of cases with 103.
It was followed by Iloilo with 97, Aklan, 19; Capiz, 18; Iloilo City, 11; Guimaras, three, and Bacolod City, one.
Victims sustained injuries from Kwitis, “boga” (improvised cannon), Triangle, Camara, and Watusi.
