Ease of Paying Taxes Act a 'pro-taxpayer' law that would foster transparency, boost PH economic dev't—senators
Senators on Monday, January 8, welcomed the signing of the Ease of Payment Taxes Act saying the new law would help foster transparency in the business processes and further boost the country’s economic development.
“The signing of the Ease of Paying Taxes Act stands as a resounding testament to our unwavering commitment to progressive governance,” Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian said in a statement.
“This landmark legislation epitomizes our steadfast dedication to delivering tangible benefits to each Filipino taxpayer, fostering transparency in our processes and boosting economic development,” he said.
The law is designed to simplify tax processes, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and enhance overall taxpayer experience.
According to Gatchalian, the new law would encourage compliance, create a more business-friendly environment, and mandate the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to institutionalize the use of digitalization in filing and payment, registration, change of registration, and other essential processes.
Sen. Grace Poe also lauded the signing of a “pro-taxpayer law” that she hopes will eventually increase tax compliance and collection.
“The simpler, easier and less costly means of filing taxes will also be attractive to more business to venture in the country,” Poe said.
But even with the new law, Poe said she hopes the BIR must not let up on its role in ensuring efficient collection.
“The move towards digital transformation in our tax system will bear fruit with the continued vigilance of concerned agencies,” she said.
