Polines said these were dipped in a drum of water before it was disposed of in a pit at the BCPO headquarters for safety. This will also prevent people from recycling them, he added.
He said that this accomplishment could be attributed to the cooperation of the public since the start of the holiday season.
Polines noted the effectiveness of their inspection and implementation of firecracker laws as these minimized the sale of illegal firecrackers outside firecracker zones.
He said the activity was simultaneously done pursuant to the directive of the national headquarters and in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Meanwhile, the City Health Office (CHO) reported nine firecracker-related injuries here from December 21 to January 3.
One individual was injured in the right arm, two in the right hand, and three persons in the left hand and eyes, according to the CHO.
These victims were from Barangays Handumanan, Villamonte, Pahanocoy, Alangilan, Singcang-Airport, Mansilingan, Estefania, and Barangay 36.
