Navotas gov't prepares activities for 118th founding anniversary celebration


The Navotas City government said on Saturday, Jan. 6, that it prepared a series of activities for its 118th founding anniversary celebration on Jan. 16.

The city government said that the festivities for the Navotas Day, themed “Kapag Tulong-Tulong, Angat ALL, Saya ALL," will start with "Misa ng Pasasalamat and Pistang Kristyano" on Monday, Jan. 8.

A banchetto-style night market called "Kalye Fiesta" will also be opened at the Navotas Citywalk and Ampitheater.

The "Araw ng Mangingisda (Fishermen's Day)" will also be held on Jan. 10, to honor the city’s fisherfolk.

It will feature boat racing and net mending competition and the awarding of the Top 10 most outstanding fisherfolks in the city.

Navotas is dubbed the "Fishing Capital of the Philippines" as most of its resident's livelihood comes directly and indirectly from fishing and other industries related to it including fish processing, trading, and net mending.

The Pangisdaan Festival street dance competition where junior and senior students of six public high schools in the city will showcase dance performances featuring the rich history and culture of the city will also be a part of the activities for the founding anniversary celebration.

The local government said that it will also give recognition to the Top 20 taxpayers in business and realty on Sunday, Jan. 14; "Zumba and Health Caravan for Lolo and Lola;" Navotas Funbikers Get-Together Ride; Invitational Judo Tournament; "Pakita Mo Pet Mo! (Dog Edition);" Kaunlaran Super Health Center groundbreaking activity; financial literacy seminar; simultaneous clean-up activity; a grand parade; and a mega job fair.

The city government will distribute packs of rice to residents on Jan. 17-22, to wrap up the celebration of the founding anniversary.

“Another fruitful year of overcoming challenges has come and gone. Through this celebration, we express our gratefulness for the guidance and blessings that we received from the Almighty for the past years,” Navotas City Mayor John Reynald "John Rey" Tiangco said.

“The milestones we have achieved in our city are also made possible with the support and cooperation of Navoteños,” he added.
