Laoag City records 35 animal bite cases in 3 days

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – This city logged 35 animal bite cases in the first three days of this year, the City Health Office said.

Dr. Joseph Adaya, city health officer, said victims have been injected with anti-rabies vaccine and most of them were 15-years-old and below.

Adaya said the city health office has sufficient anti-rabies vaccine.

Dr. Loida Valenzuela, provincial veterinary officer, said they have formulated a five-year plan to contain the possible increase in rabies cases in this province.

Valenzuela advised pet owners and residents to properly take care of their pets to avoid rabies.

“It is necessary to subject all your pets to vaccination, especially the dogs, to ensure the safety of the family members and the people in the community,” she added.

Last year, the Ilocos Norte Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) logged 181 rabies cases due to the presence of stray dogs on the streets.
