15,000 troops deployed in Manila to secure Traslacion 2024
A total of 15,276 personnel from different agencies in Manila were officially deployed on Saturday, January 6, as activities for the feast of Black Nazarene began.
In a send-off ceremony at the Quirino Grandstand on Saturday, Jan. 6, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Director Jose Melecio Nartatez Jr., Quiapo Church Rector Fr. Rufino Sescon Jr., Parish Vicar Fr. Jonathan Mojica, and other leaders of different agencies joined the event.
The personnel will be deployed in strategic areas such as Quirino Grandstand, Quiapo Church, and the entire procession route.
They will focus on anti-criminality and securing peace and order as the feast is expected to draw 22 million devotees.

During a media conference at the Benedict XVI Building in Quiapo on Thursday, Jan. 4, Lacuna said the MPD is ready for the upcoming procession.
“Handang-handa na po ang mga MPD sa tulong na rin po ng buong pwersa ng PNP. We have around 12,000 men and women na tutulong po sa atin para maging ligtas at maayos ang atin pong activities for Jan. 8 and 9 (The MPDs are ready with the help of the entire PNP force. We have around 12,000 men and women who will help us so that our activities for Jan. 8 and 9 will be safe and orderly),” she said.
The mayor also said that the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) will deploy 12 ambulances around the area to respond to emergencies.
No Vendors
On Jan. 2, authorities said that they cleared the area of over 900 vendors in preparation for the activities related to the feast of Black Nazare.
They said that the first clearing operation was for the replica blessing that was held on Jan. 3 and 4.
They said that on Sunday, Jan. 7, they will conduct a total clearing operation in the whole vicinity of Quiapo Church in preparation for feast activities and during the procession on Jan. 8 and 9.
However, on the first Friday Mass, Jan. 5, vendors were allowed to return to Quiapo to sell their products until Sunday to still earn.
They said that vendors can return to their vending places on Jan. 10.
Liquor and firecracker ban


Lacuna-Pangan signed on Friday, Jan. 5, Executive Order No. 1 and No. 2, Series of 2024, banning liquor and the sale or use of firecrackers from Jan. 8 to 10.
EO No. 1 states that to promote peace and order during the celebration of the feast of the Black Nazarene, liquor will be banned from Jan. 8 to 10.
The sale of liquor and other alcoholic beverages in the Quiapo area, particularly within a 500-meter radius of the Quiapo Church, is prohibited.
City Ordinance No. 5555, which prohibits drinking alcoholic beverages in public places such as streets and alleys, will be strictly implemented.
EO No. 2, on the other hand, states that to preserve solemnity on occasion and avoid danger and injuries, the manufacture, sale, distribution, or use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices will be imposed from Jan. 8 to 9.
It aims to protect the physical structures along the procession route of the Black Nazarene and the general environment against accidental fires.
