A transformer on an electric post exploded on Friday, Jan. 5, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished at the corner of Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue and Bernal Street in Barangay Rosario, Pasig City.
According to fire volunteers, the fire that started at around 3:30 a.m. only lasted for 15 minutes.
Residents said they only noticed the fire when they followed the smell of burning copper.
They said the incident caused them a 10-hour brownout.
Fire responders said the cables attached to the pole were tangled.
They also said that it was not the first electrical fire incident on that pole.
Meralco immediately deployed a line team to restore the electricity, but they said the fire had burned too many wires from the electric post.
Bernal Street was also impassable to vehicles until the electricity was restored at 1:41 a.m.
