LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police seized hot lumber worth P8.2 million in anti-illegal logging operations in the Cordillera from January 1 to December 31 last year.

The Police Regional Office Cordillera-Regional Operations Division said 272 anti-illegal logging operations were conducted which resulted in the arrest of 62 suspected illegal loggers.
It said that 79,316.41 board feet of illegally sawn lumber amounting to P8,208,325.21 was seized.
The Kalinga Police Provincial Office arrested 25 illegal loggers, followed by the Ifugao PPO with 15; Apayao PPO, 10; and the Baguio City Police Office and Benguet PPO with six each.
The PRO-Cordillera has remained active in their environmental preservation efforts through the conduct of tree-planting activities, clean-up drives, and forest patrols in the region.
The Regional Community Affairs and Development Division said that in the past year, they planted 64,899 fruit-bearing and non-fruit-bearing trees in 1,265 tree-planting activities.
