Shear line, 'amihan' to bring rains, thunderstorms this weekend — PAGASA
Scattered rains and thunderstorms may affect the eastern parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas due to the shear line—a weather system formed by the convergence of the cold northeasterly winds and warm easterly winds, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its weekly weather outlook released on Friday, Jan. 5, PAGASA said the shear line may bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the eastern section of Southern Luzon, Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar until Sunday, Jan. 7.
The northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," may also bring cloudy weather with light rains to Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), while it may bring partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated light rains to Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Ilocos Region, and Central Luzon.
From Monday to Thursday, Jan. 8 to 11, PAGASA said the eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line.
Meanwhile, mostly cloudy skies with light amihan rains may prevail over Cagayan Valley and CAR.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains may also affect the rest of Luzon.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms because of the easterlies.
By Friday, Jan. 12, PAGASA said cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Bicol region, Quezon, and Northern and Eastern Samar due to the shear line.
“Flooding and landslides are possible in low-lying and mountainous areas due to prolonged rains,” PAGASA warned.
Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley and Aurora will be mostly cloudy with light amihan rains.
PAGASA said the rest of Luzon may experience isolated light rains due to amihan, while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms because of the easterlies.
