Security preparations being readied for Indonesia's Widodo -- PNP

All security preparations are now being ironed out for the official visit of Indonesian President Joko Widodo to the Philippines next week, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the PNP will provide augmentation to the Presidential Security Group (PSG), which will serve as the lead unit for the Philippines' side in ensuring the safety of Widodo while in the country.
Widodo is expected to meet President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his visit from Jan. 9 to 11.
His arrival will coincide with the procession of the Black Nazarene or Traslacion, which the PNP is also tasked to secure.
"The PSG is the lead unit but the PNP will provide enough personnel to augment them particularly in the engagement areas. We don't see any security concern because we have enough personnel to cover," Fajardo said in a press briefing on Friday, Jan. 5.
According to Fajardo, the PNP will follow its security template when foreign dignitaries visit the country.
"This will not be the first time that the PNP will provide security coverage to successive major events so we already have a security template for arriving foreign dignitaries," she said.
Widodo and Marcos are seen to reaffirm their commitment to deepening and expanding the Philippines-Indonesia ties, especially as the two countries will celebrate their 75th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations in November 2024, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
