House energy panel sets probe on Panay power woes after massive blackout

The House Committee on Energy will carry out an investigation next week on the massive blackout that greeted Panay Island to start the new year.
This was bared Deputy Majority Leader Iloilo City lone district Rep. Julienne “Jam-Jam” Baronda in a Facebook post just before midnight Friday, Jan. 5
Baronda, based on her post written in Ilonggo, said that the House inquiry would take place on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 9:30 a.m.
The lady solon was among the House members who called for a probe on the unfortunate power interruptions that have adversely affected residents of Panay and other parts of Western Visayas.
Baronda thanked Speaker Martin Romualdez, the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives, for his favorable response to the probe request.
The House is still under its annual holiday break and won't hold sessions until Jan. 22.
The Thursday probe will essentially be a continuation of the inquiry that was started by the House Energy panel in April 2023 when the the province suffered a similar power interruption.

Delving deeper into the issue and holding accountable those responsible for the blackout is warranted, says Baronda.
Marinduque lone district Rep. and former Speaker Lord Allan Velasco chairs the energy committee.
Deputy Majority Leader Iloilo 1st district Rep. Janette Garin and Deputy Minority Leader ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro have also called for a probe on the power situation in Panay.
