The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has teamed up with online commerce platform Shopee to help Halal food sellers market their goods and reach the wider public.
Through the program, DTI and Shopee will train sellers about the onboarding process in Shopee with sessions tackling product listing guidelines, UI navigation, and business insights.
The training, which will commence this month, will also involve learning about Shopee fundamentals along with commercial and operations improvement.
These aim to prepare sellers as they successfully navigate the e-commerce platform, and help grow their online presence as more consumers gain access to their goods and services.
The target beneficiaries are mostly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sellers of all kinds of Halal food products, in line with Shopee’s goal to help niche businesses thrive in the digital market.
Halal food products pertain to food that is made from components or ingredients that comply with Islamic dietary laws. The same laws also apply to how the food is produced and processed.
DTI Director Marievic Bonoan said its partnership with Shopee will enhance the online visibility of Halal products.
“This collaboration will further strengthen the DTI's commitment to promoting economic growth and ensuring that MSMEs offering Halal-certified products have the tools and resources to adapt to a dynamic market," remarked Bonoan.
Shopee Philippines Head Vincent Lee said the firm is dedicated to making the platform inclusive for sellers and consumers.
“Our collaboration with the DTI to onboard Halal food sellers aligns with our commitment to supporting MSMEs and providing diverse options for our users. This is another step towards empowering businesses of all kinds and sizes to thrive in the digital economy,” added Lee.
