The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed 623 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, Jan. 5, adding to the total national count of 4,138,564 cases.

The DOH Covid-19 tracker revealed eight new deaths and the country's fatality rate is at 1.6 percent.
Meanwhile, active cases stand at 5,822.
Recovery figures continue to rise, with 4,065,886 individuals having successfully recovered, marking a recovery rate of 98.3 percent, boosted by 284 additional recoveries.
Concerning Covid-19 bed occupancy, it said that 13.03 percent of the 1,958 designated ICU beds are in use, with 18.38 percent occupancy for non-ICU beds.
Out of the 1,962 available mechanical ventilators, 173 are actively supporting Covid-19 patients.
Related to this, the health department is urging the public not to become complacent.
Health officials emphasized the ongoing importance of adhering to basic health standards, including the proper wearing of face masks and staying in well-ventilated areas.
It said that individuals with symptoms of Covid-19 should be isolated immediately.
For added protection, DOH reminded the public to get their Covid-19 vaccine and booster as soon as possible.
