The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) said the number of eight focus crimes also went down by 40.52 percent or 109 cases from 269 in 2022 to 160 in 2023.
Theft topped the list of focus crimes with 62, followed by rape with 47, murder with 16, robbery with 12, homicide with nine, and physical injury and motorcycle carnapping with seven each.
No carnapping incident was reported last year but two were recorded in 2022.
Police Lt. Col. Ronnie Brillo, administrative officer of the BCPO, said the initiatives and best practices of the BCPO for crime solution and crime prevention contributed to fewer crimes in this city in 2023.
He said that intensified police presence also helped deter crimes here.
Of the 10 police stations in this city, Police Station 2 recorded the most crimes with 188, followed by Police Station 6 with 159, Police Station 3, 142; Police Station 1, 135; Police Station 8, 123; Police Station 7, 114; Police Station 4, 100; Police Station 5, 94; Police Station 9, 56, and Police Station 10, 42.
Brillo said a police station having recorded the most crimes does not mean that it is ineffective in their crime prevention measures. He said that their accomplishments against crime and violation of special laws are also included as basis.
