Police believed that Joel Jude Suson Unchuan, 46, also known as “Coach J,” was killed by strangulation in his car before his body was dumped in Barangay Inayagan.

The body was found on December 30. The victim’s black Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was recovered on December 31 near a carwash shop in Liloan town, northern Cebu.

Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas chief Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, said that with the recovery of the victim’s vehicle and his cellphone, investigators will be able to identify the perpetrators that will help solve the killing.

The SUV and the victim’s cell phone have been submitted for forensic examination.

“Through the forensic examination, we can gather fingerprints and other pieces of evidence,” Pelare said on Thursday, January 4.

The SUV was equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) that enabled the investigators to review the victim’s movements before he was found dead.

Investigators are not discounting the possibility that robbery was the motive of the killing because some cash was missing from the victim’s pouch.

The pouch reportedly contained P30,000.

Personal grudges could also be one of the motives of the killing.

Police are reviewing security camera footage as investigators are checking reports that two men were spotted alighting from the victim’s vehicle.
