Cordillera logs 36 fireworks injuries


BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Health-Cordillera has recorded 36 fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) during the New Year in the region.

Thirty-five were injured due to fireworks and one was a victim of a stray bullet here.

Two new cases were registered on Thursday morning, January 4, 57 percent higher compared to the same period in 2022.

The province of Kalinga has 13 FWRIs, followed by Baguio City with 12, Abra with six, Apayao with three, and Benguet with two.

Only Ifugao and Mountain Province have yet to record an FWRI.

Victims’ ages range from five to 62.

Majority or 57 percent used legal fireworks. Most or 60 percent of the injured were active users of fireworks and majority (54 percent) occurred in their homes.

The DOH-Cordillera started recording FWRIs on December 21.
