ILIGAN CITY – The 1st Infantry Division has condemned the ambush of three intelligence soldiers in Munai, Lanao del Norte in which two of them were killed.

Major Gen. Gabriel C. Viray III, 1st ID commander, expressed deep sadness over the incident against troops of the 51st Infantry (Fuerte Uno) Battalion.
“The 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division strongly condemns this cowardly act of violence and expresses its deepest condolences to the families of our fallen soldiers,” Viray said.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our troops and the local communities we serve,” he added.
The ambush was carried out by six suspected members of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group.
The fatalities sustained multiple bullet wounds in the head.
A third soldier managed to evade the ambush and report the incident to the 51st IB headquarters.
The fatalities lost equipment and personal belongings and their cadavers have been brought to a funeral home in Barangay Bagumbayan, Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte.
Major Mark Joseph L. Jaque, 51st IB officer-in-charge, have informed the families of the fatalities and provided them support.
