TACLOBAN CITY – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-8 reported that 94.25 percent of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) in Eastern Visayas have consolidated into corporations and cooperatives under the PUV Modernization Program.
Veronica Reposar, LTFRB-8 Transportation Development Office chief, assured that there is no crisis in the transportation sector in the region since all routes have consolidated entities.

Of the 2,510 Public Utility Jeepney units in Eastern Visayas, only 164 have not joined consolidated entities. On the other hand, only 67 out of the 1,034 public utility vans have not been consolidated.
"There is only 5.75 percent or 231 units of unconsolidated PUVs that were no longer allowed to operate," Reposar said, adding that Eastern Visayas is one of the regions with the highest consolidation compliance rate based on their monitoring.
She said that the remaining unconsolidated traditional PUVs will be allowed to operate once they have consolidated into a corporation or cooperative.
"Only individual operators that have not complied with the consolidation will not be allowed to operate because it means that they do not conform with modernization.”
Reposar stressed that even consolidated PUV operators need to secure provisional authority from LTFRB in order to operate until December 31.
The government aims to achieve full transport modernization by 2025 which gives time for operators to purchase or secure a loan to acquire modern units.
