DOLE-6 implements P10.4-M livelihood project for jeepney drivers, operators

ILOILO CITY â€“ The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-6 is implementing a P10.4-million livelihood project for drivers and operators displaced by the phase out of traditional jeepneys in Western Visayas.

DOLE-6 Regional Director Sixto Rodriguez Jr. led the ceremonial kickoff of livelihood assistance to 437 transport workers all over Western Visayas under the DOLE EnTsuperneur Program, a joint project with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), which is funding the livelihood program to mitigate the impact of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

Beneficiaries of the program were identified and endorsed by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Office of the Transport Cooperatives (OTC).

Beneficiaries were the Iloilo City Alliance of Operators and Drivers Transport Cooperative (ICAODTC) which received P5.7 million, P1 million each for the Santa Barbara-New Lucena Iloilo Transport Cooperative (SBNITC) and the United Negros Transport Cooperative (UNTC), and two cooperatives in Aklan â€“ the Malinao-Lezo Transport Cooperative (MLTC) and the Tangalan Transport Cooperative (TTC) which were given P1 million each.

The livelihood project included sari-sari stores as well as food and retailing businesses.

The remaining amount is for other beneficiaries.
