Disney’s animated film “Wish,” featuring the voices of Ariana DeBose and Chris Pine, emerged as the No. 1 top-grossing movie in South Korea for the month of January.
The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) released the list of the top-grossing films in South Korea for January 2024.
“Wish,” which was released in South Korea on Jan. 3, is No. 1 with 1.35 million tickets sold, generating a gross of $9.71 million for the month.

The Korea movie “Alienoid,” released on Jan. 10 and starring Ryu Jun-yeol, Kim Woo-bin, Kim Tae-ri and So Ji-sub, placed second with 1.34 million in total admissions and monthly gross of $9.76 million.
The Korean movie “12.12: The Day,” released on Nov. 22 last year starring Hwang Jung-min, Jung Woo-sung, Lee Sung-min, Park Hae-joon, is in third place with 1.2 million in total admissions and $8.98 million in revenue.
As of January, “12.12: The Day” has sold 13 million tickets and grossed $95.58 million. It became the No. 1 movie in South Korea in 2023 and No. 9 top-grossing movie of all time.
The Korean historical film “Noryang: Deadly Sea,” released on Dec. 20 starring Kim Yoon-seok, Baek Yoon-sik, Jung Jae-young and Huh Joon-ho, is No. 4 in January with 1.12 million in total admissions and gross of $8.14 million.
“Citizen of a Kind,” released on Jan. 24 starring “Reply 1988” actress Ra Mi-ran, took fifth place with 661,988 in total admissions and gross of $4.58 million.
