Australia Day 2024 celebrates warm friendship and strategic partnership with PH

Australian Ambassador Hae Kyong Yu and spouse Fergus Murphy hosted one of the largest national day celebrations Manila has witnessed. The deep connections and camaraderie between Australia and the Philippines were evident, with Manila's government, business, and social leaders participating in the Australia Day festivities at the Rizal Ballroom, Makati Shangri-La on Jan. 25, 2024.

 Joining the celebration for Australia Day were key officials from the Executive, Legislative and Justice branches of the Philippine Government.  (From left): Justice Benjamin Caguioa, Department of Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa,  Justice Any Lazaro-Javier, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Department Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ma Teresa Lazaro, Australian Ambassador HK Yu PSM, Senator Cynthia Villar, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, Department of Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and Justice Rodil Zalameda.

Many significant Australian businesses were also represented, highlighting the active economic and investment opportunities between the two countries.  
 

Australia's National Day is renowned for showcasing the finest Australian products, including wine, cheese, meat, and produce.

Ambassador Yu, in her remarks, reflected on an exciting 2023, marked by the signing of a strategic partnership between Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. "We have never been closer, as partners, and as friends, Looking ahead to 2024, there is so much more to be excited about as we work together to turn words into action," said Ambassador Yu.

Filipino-Australian celebrity and UNICEF National Ambassador Anne Curtis was the emcee at the Australia Day celebration.

The Ambassador also thanked the Australian and Philippine business leaders who came to support the Embassy stating, "Our corporate partners are key players in advancing our two-way trade and investment relationship, through the world class expertise they bring to the Philippines."
