Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar said the local government's vaccination drive against pneumonia has already served thousands of senior citizens in different barangays in the city.
Aguilar said the City Health Office (CHO) headed by Dr. Julie Gonzalez vaccinated 800 senior citizens on Jan. 26 at CAA events place in Barangay BF International.
She said the CHO team also extended their services to senior citizens on the same day at the Golden Acres covered court in Barangay Talon Singko where more than 800 beneficiaries got the pneumonia shot.
The mayor said the vaccination drive against pneumonia for senior citizens started on Jan. 24 in Barangays Almanza Dos and Pamplona, serving over 1,100 beneficiaries.
Aguilar also said the second vaccination drive in the two communities continued on Jan. 26 as a response to the high demand and positive feedback.
She said the CHO served over 1,600 on the second day of vaccination drive for the elderly population.
The vaccination campaign is part of the city’s ongoing effort to protect the senior citizens who are vulnerable to respiratory diseases like pneumonia.
Aguilar said the initiative is especially crucial as pneumonia remains one of the leading causes of illness and death among senior citizens in the Philippines.
