Sleeping soldier run over by truck in Negros

BACOLOD CITY – A soldier was run over while sleeping under a truck in Barangay 6, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Monday, January 29.

Police identified the victim as Corporal Galelio Alegre, 28, of Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Police Major Ryan Villasario, deputy chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, said the victim, assigned to the Army engineering battalion in Himamaylan City, slept under a truck while waiting for his trip to Cebu.

Villasario said the truck driver drove his vehicle when it was time to board a roll-on, roll-off vessel (RoRo) bound to Cebu but did not notice the victim who was run over and died of head injuries.

He said the 35-year-old truck driver was released from police custody after the lapse of the reglementary detention. He said the victim’s family and truck driver have yet to meet.
