In a move towards enhancing the nation's health infrastructure post-pandemic, the Department of Health (DOH) will hold the 2nd National Health Sector Meeting (NHSM).

Scheduled on Jan. 31, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City, this year's NHSM will focus on solidifying plans for the "DOH Modernization for Health Equity" framework, a strategic response to the evolving health landscape post-Covid-19.
The framework takes into account various challenges, including pandemics, climate change, disasters, emergencies, and specific health risks among adolescents including teenage pregnancy and substance abuse.
Moreover, the DOH emphasizes the consideration of advancements in information technology, genomics, artificial intelligence, and medical transport modernization.
These technological developments, DOH said, are envisioned to play a pivotal role in improving epidemiology, fostering behavioral change, and enhancing community engagement.
At its core, the framework aims to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through ground-level primary care with emphasis on the 28 million poorest Filipinos, who are among the most vulnerable communities.
With millions of Filipinos experiencing modern healthcare standards abroad, the DOH aspires to provide premier and modern services in primary care centers.
The initiative underscores the need to leverage resources with a contemporary mindset, utilizing modern technology and innovative approaches to deliver healthcare services.
This modernization effort aligns seamlessly with the health sector's 8-point action agenda, "Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay Mahalaga," which advocates for making UHC, through primary care, a tangible reality for every Filipino, community, health worker, and institution.
DOH noted that the upcoming NHSM also serves as a crucial step in advancing these vital healthcare initiatives for the benefit of Filipinos.
