A 22-year-old man was arrested after shooting a 16-year-old boy using an improvised shotgun called “sumpak” in Malate, Manila last Saturday night, police said on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the suspect as Jhon Harinz Militante, a resident of Malate, Manila.
The suspect was apprehended by the patrolling officers of Arellano Police Community Precinct (PCP) while escaping from the scene along Charcoal Street in Malate on Saturday night, Jan. 28.
Police said they saw the suspect running away from the victim's uncle while carrying a sumpak.
Police blocked the suspect using their patrol car. Seized from him were the sumpak and an icepick.
Meanwhile, the victim was brought to the Ospital ng Maynila for medical treatment and is now under observation.
Probers did not disclose the suspect's motive for committing the crime.
The arrested suspect is now detained at MPD Malate Police Station (PS-9) and facing charges of frustrated murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and illegal possession of a deadly weapon.
