TAKE IN THE SIGHTS Bask in the mountain views at this villa in Sorsogon, Bicol

Let this year fly you to a provincial paradise

Can you imagine trees spanning out as far as the eye can see? Or perhaps looking at the various livestock roaming about, grazing along the widespread fields of green? If the answer is yes, look no further than a trip to Sorsogon, Bicol. There’s much to enjoy about this provincial paradise.

One of its best destinations would have to be the Bulusan Volcano National Park. Picture over 3,673 hectares worth of protected rainforest, serving as a home to much wildlife. Visitors can also take a relaxing kayaking experience over Bulusan Lake, where the view on a sunny day is just gorgeous. Even on a rainy day though, Bulusan Lake’s views make for a chilling photo-op, as its thick fogs give off Silent Hill vibes.

For those looking to enrich themselves with Sorsogon’s history, feel free to visit Museo Sorsogon. Formerly a provincial jailhouse and courthouse, the century-old structure was converted into a museum by Senator Chiz Escudero while he was Sorsogon governor and opened to the public in 2021. You’ll get to learn plenty about the land’s rich history spanning from pre-colonial times until the Martial Law era.

BEACH BEFORE THE SUMMER Beat the summer crowd to this beach house in San Felipe, Zambales

Let this year toss you to the waves of San Felipe, Zambales

It’s the perfect time to plan a visit to San Felipe in Zambales just before summer when you need not share it with the beach crowd. Just imagine enjoying the pristine Limliwa Beach all by yourself. This leaves large open spaces and more time to relax to the peaceful sounds of waves crashing the shore.

For those with a knack for thrilling adventure, consider taking a trip to the nearby Mt. Pinatubo. What was once one of the most powerful volcanoes to rock the nation is now a perfect hiking destination. Climb your way up and enjoy the view or take a relaxing detour over at the Pinatubo Spa. Here you can bask yourself in warm, volcanic ash to soothe your body or rejuvenate your skin with volcanic mud.
