Maynilad Water Services, Inc. has announced plans to build new reservoirs in three Metro Manila cities as part of its efforts to boost water storage capacity and enhance supply and pressure for its customers.

In a statement, the west zone concessionaire said that the company will allocate P2.8 billion from its P220 billion service enhancement program budget to the construction of four new reservoirs in Quezon City, Valenzuela, and Muntinlupa.

With the help of the new facilities, Maynilad aims to add 211 million liters (ML) of water to its storage capacity by 2026.

The additional supply would greatly benefit customers especially those situated in elevated areas, the company said.

“With this increased storage capacity, [we] will essentially have an additional 211 ML of potable water supply that is accessible at the distribution system level, ready for release during hours of peak demand,” Maynilad said.

Randolph T. Estrellado, Maynilad chief operating officer, said that households in high-rise places are often affected by low water pressure, especially when during peak water demand.

“Having more reservoirs will help to maintain supply availability despite strong water withdrawals from households in low-lying areas, so we’re building more of these storage facilities in strategic locations,” he said.

Currently, Maynilad has over 37 functional reservoirs with 751 ML of treated water supply.

Within that number, 13 old water infrastructures and 14 newly built reservoirs have been since its re-privatization in 2007.

According to the utility company, this posed an improvement from the past 10 facilities that were only able to hold 400 ML of storage.

“With the construction of four new reservoirs until 2026, the company’s total combined water-storage capacity will reach 962 ML,” Maynilad shared.

The concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) continues to be the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines consumer-based.

It encompasses the certain parts of Manila City, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, and all in Cavite Province.
