Leyte town plants 11,841 trees in 2023


MATAG-OB, Leyte – The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office here said that they have planted a total of 11,841 seedlings in their tree-planting program for 2023 in response to the challenges posed by climate change.

Of the 11,841 seedlings planted in the program with the theme "Making Matag-ob Green Again," 4,500 were in Barangay Malazarte, 3,547 in Masaba, 2,994 in San Vicente, 600 in Barangay Bulak, and 100 each in Cansoso and San Marcelino.

With a 10,000 target per year, Mayor Bernandino Tacoy said they are coordinating with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), private sector, and members of communities to meet their target.

Couples who apply for a marriage license are required to plant at least 10 seedlings each.

Tacoy vowed to continue planting trees to help mitigate and minimize the effects of climate change and increase the resilience of the ecosystem here.
