25 hurt in New Year’s Day multiple collision


CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – Twenty-five persons were injured in a multiple collision on Villa Verde Trail in Barangay Santa Maria East, San Nicolas, Pangasinan on New Year’s Day.

The Police Regional Office-1 said a Starex van with 10 people on board driven by Pastor Arnel Marzo Camba, 36, of Barangay Don Montano, Umingan, Pangasinan, was descending on the curve portion of the road when it was accidentally bumped from behind by a Toyota Hi-Ace Van with 12 passengers driven by Jerwell Saludares Antonio, 37.

Due to the impact of the collision, the Starex encroached on the opposite lane and hit an ascending Toyota Innova with three passengers driven by Edward Sebastian Orje, 40, while an ascending motorcycle driven by Marcelino Romero Damian, 57, of Barangay Diket, Umingan, with a back rider, hit the rear of the Innova.

Twenty-one passengers of the four vehicles and the four drivers  sustained minor injuries and five  were unhurt.

The injured victims were taken to the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in  Tayug, Pangasinan.

The four vehicles which sustained undetermined cost of repair were taken to the San Nicolas Police Station.

Police advised motorists to take extra precaution while traveling on the Villa Verde Road.
