PLDT Global, Korean telco give free SIMs to OFWs

PLDT Global Corporation, with the help of Korean telco JD Mobile Company, will provide free SIM cards to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) bound for South Korea to assist them in complying with foreign telecommunications policies.

The free SIM cards come with a one-month subscription plan including data, voice, and text services, as well as easy access to apps and networks available only in South Korea.

OFWs may also use the SIMs to register to the Tindahan ni Bossing (TINBO) e-commerce platform of PLDT Global to get their Smart Virtual Number (SVN) and avail of the products and other benefits entitled to TINBO users.

Through TINBO, OFWs can make cross-country bill payments via Maya bank, send e-gifts to families and friends, conduct telehealth or telemedicine sessions, get food and gift vouchers, and purchase goods and other services.

Once OFWs land in Korea, JDM will also give them one-stop support services while they’re adjusting to their new lives and duties.

PLDT Global President Albert Villa-Real said they are eager to provide OFWs with the necessary tools and services to ensure they keep connected with their families in the Philippines while they settle in their respective countries.

All of these services are meant to reduce additional costs that would otherwise be made by OFWs to establish communication lines in Korea and the Philippines, he added.

“We are very happy and honored to have signed a business agreement with PLDT Global. We expect that this will have a synergy effect in the development of our companies. We will actively cooperate in making sure that the best services of both companies will be delivered to our customers,” said JDM President Lim Yuonsub.
