PAF to the rescue as wildfire spreads in Benguet

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) deployed personnel equipped with firefighting skills to suppress a wildfire in Itogon, Benguet on Monday, Jan. 29.

Personnel from PAF's 505th Search and Rescue Group have been performing water drops using a "bambi" or helicopter bucket onboard two Super Huey helicopters in an attempt to contain the blaze in the forest of Barangay Dalupirip.

PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo said the fire started on Friday, Jan. 26, and the air force firefighters have been helping in containing the fire since Saturday.

"As of today, the fire has affected around 12 hectares of the forest," Castillo said.

No casualty has been reported but the blaze was ongoing as of this writing.

Castillo said the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has launched an investigation to determine the cause of fire.
