Magnitude 5.1 aftershock hits Surigao del Sur ---Phivolcs
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday, Jan. 29, said a magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur at 3:37 p.m.

Phivolcs said the tremor was an aftershock of the 7.4-magnitude earthquake in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur last Dec. 2, 2023.
The epicenter of the aftershock was located 133 kilometers (km) northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
The aftershock with a shallow depth of 29 km was tectonic or caused by the movement of an active fault near the area, said Phivolcs.
Phivolcs also said no aftershock or damage to properties is to be expected from the happening.
