The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) identified the 10 areas with the coldest temperatures in the country on Monday, Jan. 29.
PAGASA said La Trinidad, Benguet recorded the lowest temperature of 9.7°C, which was also the coldest temperature put into record since 2024 started.
Baguio City came in second with 11.0°C that was recorded at 7:50 a.m.
The other areas with the lowest temperatures are Basco, Batanes (15.7°C); Tanay, Rizal (18.3°C); Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (18.8°C); Abucay, Bataan (19.3°C); Malaybalay, Bukidnon (19.8°C); Baler, Aurora (19.9°C); Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (19.9°C); and Dagupan City, Pangasinan (20°C).
Weather expert Obet Badrina said in the 4 a.m. live broadcast of PAGASA that the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," will continue to prevail over most of the country.
"Patuloy ang pag-iral ng northeast monsoon o hanging amihan partikular na sa malaking bahagi ng bansa na patuloy na magdadala ng malamig na mga gabi at generally fair weather lalo na sa western section ng bansa (The northeast monsoon continues to prevail particulary in huge part of the country, which will persist to bring cold nights and generally fair weather especially to western section of the country)," Badrina said.
