House Assistant Majority Leader Leyte 4th district Rep. Richard Gomez has filed a resolution urging the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to clean up and update its certified list of voters in the country.

Under House Resolution (HR) No.1542, Gomez resolution reckoned that it's important for Comelec to carry out such update ahead of the voter registration for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

He says this is to ensure a "clean, honest, and credible elections".

According to the movie actor-turned-lawmaker, "It is widely or notoriously known that the voters lists today are replete with names of voters who have passed away, 'flying voters', multiple registrants, etc."

Comelec had earlier announced that the registration of voters would be reopened from Feb. 12 to Sept. 30, 2024.

Also slated for implementation by the poll body this year as part of its reform efforts is the "Register Anywhere Program” or RAP.

Gomez pointed out that such undertakings of Comelec would only be successful if its certified list of voters had been cleansed.

HR No.1542 is pending before the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms.
