Cybercops arrest online sex predator preying on minors in Manila entrapment

The Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) warned parents against sex predators on social media anew following the arrest of a 25-year old man who allegedly convinced a female minor to perform lascivious act through an online messaging platform and later used the photos and recorded videos to ask for sexual favors.

Fortunately, the modus of the suspect, who uses the name Marjorie Osmeña on social media, was busted after the girl told her parents about the extortion demand.

Col. Jay Guillermo, chief of the PNP-ACG Cyber Response Unit, said the male suspect was arrested early Monday, Jan. 29, in Sampaloc, Manila where he was supposed to meet his female minor victim.

The victim was convinced to pose nude during their chat over various promises of the suspect that include money.

After obtaining copies of the nude photos and recording the video, the suspect then threatened the victim that he would spread it online if she would decline his request for sexual favors.

The suspect is now detained and facing charges of grave coercion in relation to Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and  "Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act.

The suspect is a resident of General Mariano Alvarez in Cavite.

The PNP-ACG has been repeatedly advising the parents to monitor the online activities of their children, particularly minors, due to the presence of cybercriminals that include sex predators.
