Beneficiaries grateful for serbisyo caravan at Bagong Pilipinas event

Several beneficiaries were grateful after availing of various government services for free during the Bagong Pilipinas kick-off rally at the Quirino Grandstand on Sunday, Jan. 28.
According to the Manila police, around 10,000 Filipinos lined up after the gates were opened on Sunday noon to get assistance from the booths of government agencies.
Joseph Z. Reyes, 53, who had a mild stroke, said he came to the event at around 3 p.m. to get financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development for his medical expenses.

He said he also wanted to enjoy and see celebrities perform despite the large crowd and being in a wheelchair.
"Masaya maglibang-libang kasi sa bahay malungkot. Dito masaya naman (It's fun here)," he said.
Reyes was accompanied by his sister who is a street sweeper in Sampaloc, Manila.
They said they did not have a hard time queuing because the DSWD personnel were quick to process everyone's concerns.
Reyes said it only took them 20 minutes because they were told to line up at the priority lane.
Meanwhile, Renz, 18, and Joshua, 22, who are first-time jobseekers, said they went to the event to apply for a police clearance.
They said they did not have to submit as many requirements as demanded in police stations.
Both of them are from Tondo and said they learned about the event through their barangay chairman.
Other beneficiaries were also happy with the free food and the souvenirs they received.
Nida Palacio, 47, who was applying for a PAG-IBIG loan, said the event was a good idea to kick off the campaign as attendees can have fun while processing their papers.
"Buti na lang hindi masyadong mainit ang panahon. Pagkatapos ko asikasuhin ito, makakapag happy, happy din (Buti na lang hindi masyadong mainit ang panahon. Pagkatapos ko asikasuhin ito, makakapag happy-happy din (Fortunately the weather is not too hot. I can have fun at the event after filing my application)," she said.
Palacio is a barangay personnel in Novaliches, Quezon City.
DSWD said 15,000 individuals under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) category were assisted in the caravan.
