Also referred to as the "Instructor Delegate," CBCP said Buco will oversee the Catholic's Office of Dispensation and Dismissal concerning cases involving clerics.

Buco has assumed this role from Bishop Emeritus Antonio Tobias of Novaliches, who has held the position of the Judicial Vicar at the National Tribunal of Appeals since January 2018.

The 60-year-old canon lawyer was sworn in on Saturday, Jan. 27, during the three-day plenary assembly, along with other officials from the CBCP who also took their oaths for the term of December 2023 to November 2025.

Meanwhile, in the Antipolo diocese, Buco will continue to serve as the Judicial Vicar, which he held even before becoming a bishop in 2018.
