1 dead, 5 hurt in Pangasinan road mishap


CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – A 13-year-old boy was killed and five were injured a freak accident on the Manila North Road in Barangay Anonas, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan on Sunday.

Police identified the victim as John Lee Dacumos, a tricycle passenger from Zone 4, Barangay Palina West, Urdaneta City.

Initial investigation said a motorcycle driven by John Carlo Sabado Malbog with a back rider, Gian Rex Corpuz, 18, who were both drunk, accidentally bumped the rear of a tricycle driven by Marlon Amansec Quinit, 40.

Due to the impact of the collision, Dacumos and fellow tricycle passenger, Althea Fontanilla, were thrown out and slumped on the center of the road and the tricycle ended up on the outer lane.

A fast-moving vehicle ran over Dacumos and sustained a head injury. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.

Dacumos and the injured were taken to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police are reviewing surveillance footages in the area to identify the third vehicle involved in the accident.

Malbog, Corpuz, Fontanilla, and tricycle passengers Jenny de Belen, 35, and Joshua Pascua, 15, were injured.

Quinit and his other passengers, Justin Fontanilla, 16;  James Fontanilla, 12; Joey Fontanilla, 14;  Charisse Andrada, 15, and Ashley Quinit, were unhurt.
