The photo posted on the Facebook page of Loved by the Gapz, the animal rescue group that helped Brownie, last Jan. 24, went viral because of the letter that his owners, a couple, attached to him.

In the message, the owners apologized to Brownie, who was suffering from an illness, for leaving him at the parking lot, as they are having troubles regarding the money for his treatment.

The owner also  thanked whoever can help Brownie, saying how kind and gentle the dog  is.

The rescue group said that Brownie is currently confined at Vetlink Veterinary Services in Quezon City and is continuously receiving medical attention because they found out during his check-up that he is suffering from several illnesses.

“Hindi po maganda ang mga naging resulta ni Brownie. Nang chineck po sya, mayroon pong nakitang necrotizing wound (nabubulok na sugat) sa kanyang private part. Good news is, hindi po ito TVT o cancer. Nag negative naman po sya sa distemper virus pero nag positive po sya sa ehrlichia na isang uri po ng blood parasite o dengue po kung sa tao (Brownie's results were not good. When he was checked-up, doctors discovered that there was a necrotizing wound (decomposing wound) on his private part. Good news is that it's not TVT or cancer. He also tested negative for the distemper virus, but he tested positive for ehrlichia, which is a type of blood parasite or dengue in humans),” it said.

It added that Brownie also has kidney and liver problems.

Doctor Judy Ann Sobrepeña of Vetlink Veterinary Services said on Sunday, Jan. 28, that Brownie is now in good condition and more responsive and active compared to his first day in the clinic.

“Sa ngayon po, so far Brownie is doing fine, and maganda ang response niya sa medication. Mas responsive na po siya and more active compare nung bagong dala po siya. Naka antibiotic po siya ngayon and anti-inflammatory (Right now, so far Brownie is doing fine and his response to the medication is good. He is now more responsive and more active compared to when he was new. He is now taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatory),” she said.

“We're also giving supplements and analgesic medicine. About naman sa wound niya, under daily wound cleaning and laser therapy for faster healing ng wound po niya (We're also giving him supplements and analgesic medicine. He is also under daily wound cleaning and laser therapy for faster healing of his wound),” she added.

Reason for abandoning

The rescue group said that Brownie's owners approached them and explained their side.

It said that one of Brownie's owners is a delivery rider, who has to pay for their house rent every month and failed to save enough money for the dog's medical treatment.

Based on the letter that they left, they do not really want to abandon Brownie, but they just do not have any other choice because they do not know where to ask to help Brownie.

"Hindi ko alam gagawin ko para ipagamot ka dahil mahirap lang tayo. Hindi ko alam kanino hihingi ng tulong kaya sobrang sorry, Brownie (I don't know what I will do to get you treated because we are just poor. I don't know who to ask for help, so I'm so sorry, Brownie)," the owner's handwritten message.

They said that after they left Brownie at the parking lot, they still watched him from afar, giving him food and water every day while they were waiting for someone to rescue him.

On Jan. 25 and 26, Brownie's owner visited him at the clinic.

The rescue group said that Brownie is now up for adoption.

It also encouraged all fur parents to be responsible pet owners and to neuter or spay their pets. As well as to seek help from any rescue group rather than abandoning their pets.
